The Windsor Lancer women's basketball team came up short against the capital city rivals this weekend. On Friday night the blue and gold dropped a 74-58 decision to the uOttawa Gee-Gees. Then, on Saturday, the Carleton Ravens edged out the Lancers in the fourth quarter to travel back to Ottawa with a 57-52 victory.

FRIDAY STATS
Lancers outdid the Gee-Gees at the charity line, shooting 63.6%. However, Ottawa shot 41.9% from the floor compared to Windsor's 29.3%.

In total 12 players logged time on the floor for the blue and gold, with
Reine Ndome and Kali Grootenbeor tied at the top, each with 12 points. Guards
Isabella Anes and
Maggie Denys were also key contributors, tallying 9 and 7 points, respectively. Late in the game, guard
Kaelyn Batten stood out offensively for the blue and gold, putting up 7 in the final 8 minutes.

HOW IT HAPPENED FRIDAY
The women opened their weekend at the Toldo Lancer Centre Friday night against the Ottawa Gee-Gees. The first quarter saw teams in a point-for-point battle until Ottawa pulled ahead in the final two minutes. The Lancers outscored the Gee-Gees in the second yet remained in a 6-point deficit going into halftime.

In the third quarter the Gee-Gees turned up the heat, extending their lead to 17 points ahead of the blue and gold. The Lancers battled from behind in the fourth round, however, outscoring Ottawa 21-20. Despite a valiant effort in the final frame, the Gee-Gees rode away with a 74-58 victory.

SATURDAY STATS
The blue and gold rose above the Ravens at the arc and at the free throw line, shooting 23.3% over 18.8% and 75% over 66.7%, respectively. 11 players saw the floor for Windsor with dynamic duo
Maggie Denys and
Leah Tate leading the offense with double-digit figures, 11 and 10 each.
Kali Grootenboer led the way for the Lancers in rebounds, earning 11 on the night.

HOW IT HAPPENED SATURDAY
The first minutes of the game saw the Ravens take an early lead, leaving the Lancers trailing by 6 with less than three minutes to go in the first quarter. However, with only 6 seconds on the board the Lancers moved the ball across the court to
Leah Tate who drove to the net and put the blue and gold ahead 13-12. At the end of the second the blue and gold found themselves in a 7-point deficit going into halftime.

In one word, resiliency is what the Lancers brought to the floor in the third quarter. Despite facing an uphill battle, the blue and gold rose to the challenge. With less than five minutes to go,
Kaelyn Batten and Kira Atherly struck with a 3-pointer and drove through the paint for a pair of 3's on the scoreboard. Then, with 0.9 seconds remaining
Kali Grootenboer sealed the deal for the 3rd with a pair of points at the charity line, making the score 34-32 for the Lancers. Despite a strong showing, the Ravens would ultimately outdo the Lancers in the final frame and end the night 5 points ahead of Windsor.
