The Windsor Lancer men's basketball team lost both of their road matches in hard-fought battles this weekend.
First while visiting the McMaster Marauders in Hamilton, the blue and gold dropped a 73-70 contest on Friday night at the Burridge Gymnasium.
While on Saturday night the Lancers lost a nailbiter in overtime with a 101-96 OT loss to the York Lions at the Tait McKenzie Centre in Toronto.
FRIDAY STATS
The teams were evenly matched overall, both shooting in the 34th percentile from the floor. The blue and gold outdid the Marauders from the 3-point arc, shooting 40.7% over McMaster's 22.7%.
In total, 9 players logged time on the floor for Windsor, with Xavier Ochu leading the way with an impressive 22 points. Luke Grace also saw a double-digit score, putting up 12 on the night.
McMaster's Mike Demagus put up 22 points leading the way offensively in his team's home win over Windsor on Friday.
HOW IT HAPPENED FRIDAY
The blue and gold lead the charge in the first half of action, outscoring the Marauders in both opening quarters. However, McMaster found some momentum in the third.
Ultimately, after a point-for-point battle in the final minutes, the Marauders pulled ahead to leave the Lancers trailing by 3 points.
SATURDAY STATS
Yohann Sam led the way for the Lancers offensively putting up a 26-point performance in the extra quarter road loss to the Lions.
Denzel Cummings and Xavier Ochu each put up 21 points respectively combining for a 42-point performance between the two Lancers who contributed heavily to the Lancer offense.
York's Joshua Noton had a game high of 27 points leading the Lions offensively in the comeback overtime win over the visiting Lancers.
HOW IT HAPPENED SATURDAY
The Lancers found themselves behind the Lions regularly throughout the opening quarter and York closed out the first quarter ahead with a 24-17 lead over Windsor.
Throughout the second quarter, York continued to lead maintaining control over the Lancers not letting up on their generated lead. The Lions would consistently add buckets and not allow the Lancers to get back into the contest for the remaining duration of the first half which concluded with York ahead 48-40 at halftime.
In the third quarter, Windsor would come alive beginning to inch closer to the York lead and attack the basket more aggressively. The blue and gold did a great job of narrowing the margin on the scoreboard to ensure they stuck within reach of the contest and flipping the script. The third quarter ended in a 61-61 stalemate going into the fourth.
The final quarter of regulation play saw both sides trading equal points at 20 apiece per team which ended the fourth quarter in a draw deadlocked at 81-81.
Overtime was necessary despite the Lancers late fourth quarter lead that was erased by the Lions and York managed to carry that momentum into overtime which granted them the opportunity to head to the free throw line more than the blue and gold and hold onto a 101-96 victory over the visitors to drop the Lancers record to date to 1-5 on the year.
UP NEXT
The Lancers remain on the road next week as they travel to Thunder Bay to take on the Lakehead Thunderwolves on Saturday, November 25th at 8pm.
