The Lancer women's hockey team dropped a pair of home games this weekend at the Capri Pizzeria Recreation Complex.
Â
The blue and gold fell 4-2 to the Waterloo Warriors on Friday night, before falling 3-1 to the Nipissing Lakers on Saturday on Breast Cancer Awareness Day.
Â
FRIDAY
The Warriors put Lancer goaltender
Kristen Swiatoschik to the test early in the game, but the Lancer defense was able to hold off the Warrior attack. For the Lancers,
Elissa Benjamin created a scoring opportunity along the boards, sending the puck to
Keana McKibbin who hired the puck towards Waterloo goaltender Carley Molnar who made a glove save. With two minutes left, Waterloo's Leah Herrfort put the Warriors on the board and sent the visitors into the dressing room up 1-0 after the first period. Â
Â
In the second period,
Rylee Hogan was able to get past Molnar with a snapshot in front of the net and tie Windsor up 1-1.
Â
The third period saw the Lancers create further scoring opportunities as they held the puck inside the Waterloo zone. Five minutes into the frame, Warrior Tatum James would score the squad's second goal to regain the visitor lead. Kathy Verth and Cathy Orth put Waterloo up by three goals before Keanna McKibbin scored with eight seconds remaining to cut their lead to two.
Â
SATURDAY
The two teams had equal scoring opportunities throughout the period, but the Lakers' Malory Dominico would strike first for Nipissing on the powerplay and the Lancers entered the first intermission, down 1-0.
Â
In the second period the blue and gold worked as a unit to push forward and get into the Nipissing zone. Within the first minute of play,
Keana McKibbin beat Chantelle Sanquist and tied the game 1-1. As both teams played a similar back-and-forth affair, Katie Chomiak was able to get past Swiatochik with two second remaining in the period, and the Lancers trailed 2-1 heading into the third.
Â
The Lakers scored an insurance marker in the third period to earn the victory on the road.
