Lancers 5-0 for first time since 1975

The No. 8 Windsor Lancer football team returned to their home turf on a beautiful Saturday in Windsor to defend their 4-game winning streak heading into the matinee against the visiting No. 10 Queen's Gaels who made the 6-hour plus trek to the Rose City.

The Lancers managed to accomplish an amazing double feat on Saturday evening which included a convincing 29-5 victory over the Gaels and matched an impressive a 5-0 milestone early season record which happened for the first time since 1975.

STATS
Brady Lidster led the way with three field goals which came in the first, second, and third quarters respectively.

Devin Veresuk also recorded a touchdown in the third quarter while Javonni Cunningham and Muftah Ageli each also picked up the second and third respective touchdowns in the victorious contest.

Danny Skelton continued to impress with an 8-13-1 Catch-Assist-Intercept passing stat line including a pass completed on the Cunningham touchdown.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The first quarter proved to be a tough battle between both sides who traded opportunities within each other's zones to apply offensive and defensive pressure at each end of the field.  Neither side could crack open a goose egg on the scoreboard until the dying seconds of the opening quarter when the Gaels scored 2 points at

In the second quarter, Lidster stole the show with his phenomenal kicks through the pipes which became the story of the quarter.  At 5:14 he converted on a 16-yard field goal kick attempt to put the Lancers up 3-2.

Meanwhile later in quarter Lidster again came up clutch for the blue and gold on another field goal kick attempt this time at a further out distance of 45-yards at the 1:52 mark to put the Lancers up 6-2 heading into halftime.

The third quarter saw the Lancers continue to build off the momentum they generated throughout the first half when they were able to expand their lead again from the foot of Lidster from a good 45-yard field goal kick attempt who increased the lead to 9-2 with 10:59 left to play in the third quarter.

The Gaels would later respond to the unanswered trio of Lancer kicks when they scored on a field goal kick of their own from 26-yards away to shrink the gap down to 9-5 Windsor.

The Lancers would then fire up the local pro-blue and gold crowd with some excitement which boasted large numbers of both current University of Windsor students and alumni on hand for UWindsor's Alumni Week to take in the match up when Veresuk scored on touchdown to push the Lancer lead up to ten and go up 15-5 on the scoreboard.

The Lancers continued to soar offensively when Cunningham's touchdown off a completed pass from Skelton was good to expand the score margin up to 22-5 with 2:39 left to go in the third after a successful follow-up field goal kick was made.

As if two touchdowns were not enough, a 3-yard pass interception made by Ageli touchdown with 1:16 left to go in the third put the Lancers up by 29-5 to end the quarter.

In the fourth, both sides intensity ramped up and emotions ran high but in the end the Lancers allowed cooler heads to prevail and were able to close out in front of an ecstatic home crowd who witnessed to once again Win in Windsor.
