After splitting the previous weekend against the Western Mustangs, the Lancer women's soccer team turned up the heat at Alumni field for a Sunday showing against the Brock Badgers. The blue and gold snatched up three points with a 2-1 victory and left the Badgers searching for their first win of the season.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Brock Badgers took to Alumni Field ready to face the blue and gold, securing an early lead in the 8th minute of play. The Badgers' immediate offensive pressure left the Lancers facing an uphill battle.
Â
For the Lancers,
Emma Beaulieu had a strong showing in badgering Brock in the midfield to regain possession and orchestrate the counterattack. Some textbook cycle play from
Emma Beaulieu and
Kailyn Robertson also lead to a standout strike by
Aislynn Essibrah that went just wide of the Badgers' goal.
Â
The first frame action was not done there, however.
Vanessa Corry kept fans on the edge of their seats in launching a header into the crossbar.
Kat Campana also had some clean tackles that were key in denying shots for the Badgers, holding them to a one-point goal differential at halftime.
Â
In the second half, the Lancers had fire under their feet as they picked up the tempo. Robertson led the offensive charge with a toe-to-toe battle with Brock's goalkeeper in the 56th minute. One minute later,
Olivia Corraza joined the rush with a tenacious strike to tie the score. Then, in the 65
th minute, Robertston returned to the party, capitalizing on a rebound from Corry to secure both the Lancer lead and her 7th tally of the season.
