The Windsor Lancer women's volleyball team earned a pair of victories over the weekend against the Trent Excalibur up in Peterborough, Ontario.
On Friday night the blue and gold defeated the green and white Excalibur 3-0 (25-13, 25-16, and 25-6) to earn their first victory of the 2023-24 campaign on Friday night.
The Lancers followed up with a repeat 3-0 (25-10, 25-12, and 25-11) win with another convincing road performance on Saturday afternoon at the Trent Athletics Centre.
FRIDAY STATS
Yaila Sealy had 10 kill performance in the win over Trent on Friday night while
Aliah Admans put away 7 kills and
Raiya Millin had 6 of her own against the Excalibur.
Millin also notched 3 service aces while Sealy scored twice on 2 of her own service aces for the blue and gold. Lancers serve and defend specialist
Olivia Foley also recorded 2 service aces for Windsor as well.
Nicole Woelk dished out 23 assists in the first match up on the weekend at Trent to help set up her team to their first victory of the year.
HOW IT HAPPENED ON FRIDAY
The first set started off quite even keeled where both sides found equality in trading points up until an eventual 6-6 stalemate where the Lancers were able to pull away from the Excalibur with a ramped-up intensity and generated a momentum run that created a 15-6 lead and opened up a large spread on the scoreboard.
With a commanding lead held by Windsor, the Lancers were able to go up 1-0 rounding out the first set over Trent 25-13 courtesy of strong consistent play down the stretch.
The second set saw a similar beginning with the Excalibur keeping it interesting with the visiting Lancers at the start including knotting the set up at 5-5 before Windsor was able to pull away from Trent and not look back again cruising to a 25-16 second set win and go up 2-0 in the match.
The Lancers were able to round out the third set on a high note and in dominating fashion with a rampage of points accumulated through their thunderous offense that fired on all cylinders and propelled Windsor to their first win of the season with a statement set win of 25-6 and accomplished 3-0 victory over Trent to improve to 1-8 on the campaign.
SATURDAY STATS
Raiya Millin had herself a tremendous all-around performance which included a game high of 10 kills, 8 digs and a whopping noteworthy 6 service aces wreaking havoc against the Excalibur in the follow up victory in Peterborough.
Danika Scharff picked up 27 assists off her Lancer teammates' kills in helping to lead her team's offense over Trent again for a second straight outing.
HOW IT HAPPENED ON SATURDAY
Windsor was able to open the scoring and control momentum early in the first set by doubling up a lead on Trent at 10-5 and triggering an early Excalibur timeout.
The blue and gold would continue to break open the score with enhanced play that showcased their dominance carried over from the night before and close out the first set on top 25-10 and nab a 1-0 match lead.
The second set repeated a similar sentiment as the first set where points were swapped between both squads early on before Windsor went on to acquire a sizable lead at 21-12 which saw Trent struggle to keep up once more.
The Lancers would go on to take the second set 25-12 after a flurry of offence allowed the visitors to stay the course and go up 2-0 in the match looking to continue remaining flawless at the Trent Athletics Centre on the weekend.
After forfeiting the opening point of the third set to the Excalibur, the Lancers widened an early lead to go up by a bunch again and continue building. The Lancers depth continued to flourish offensively and further prove that the blue and gold were on another level of play this past weekend in Peterborough.
Windsor would head home happy with a 25-11 third set win and a second straight respectable 3-0 victory over Trent. With the pair of road wins the Lancers now improve to a 2-8 record on the season.

th at 6PM and Saturday January 20
th at 4PM at the Toldo Lancer Centre.
