Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Lancers split weekend homestead

The Windsor Lancer men's basketball team had split results this weekend at home inside the Toldo Lancer Centre.

On Friday night the blue and gold dropped a 77-76 heartbreaker to the Lakehead Thunderwolves before rebounding on Saturday with a 95-75 win over the McMaster Marauders at the TLC.

WEEKEND STATS
Yohann Sam had a double-double stat line with his 27 points and 11 rebounds in Friday's loss to Lakehead leading the Lancers though nonetheless in the one-point defeat.

Simeon Smith had 16 points and Emanuel Otong scored 13 points while Yashar Greaves-Saadat grabbed 10 rebounds in the loss as well.

Saturday's scoring leader was Sam again who had 23 points in the victory while Otong scored 21 points of his own and Smith added 19 for the blue and gold's triple threat trio offensively.

FRIDAY GAME FLOW
Lakehead found themselves trailing the Lancers 15-12 by the end of the first quarter.  Windsor then saw the Thunderwolves explode offensively with a 20-16 scoring run in the second making the score 32-31 in favour of the visitors from Thunder Bay at halftime.

The blue and gold were engaged in a battle throughout the third as the Thunderwolves again outscored the Lancers 26-22 and grew their lead to 58-53 by the end of the third quarter.

The Lancers attempted to comeback with an offensive surge in the fourth quarter but despite outscoring Lakehead 23-19, the Thunderwolves had done enough on the scoreboard to preserve a one-point margin that allowed them to take the road win in Windsor serving the Lancers their fourth loss of the season and improving to a 5-0 record.

SATURDAY GAME FLOW
Looking to bounce back from the night before, the Lancers came out of the gate hot and jumped out to a 28-19 lead by the end of the first quarter on the Marauders.

McMaster would then continue to be on the ropes with the Lancers again growing their lead to a controllable cushion over the visitors from Hamilton after going on a 33-18 scoring run and making it a score of 61-37 at halftime.

The Lancers added another 30 points in the third quarter which helped propel them to a comfortable lead going into the fourth quarter.  In the fourth, McMaster outscored the Lancers 15-4 but thankfully the Lancers found themselves in a good position from the previous three quarters to not allow the scoring woes of the fourth to cost them from securing the win in Windsor with a 95-75 victory to earn their second win of the campaign and first of the season on home court at the TLC.

UP NEXT
The Lancers will now take to the 401 to travel up to Toronto to take on the Toronto Varsity Blues on Wednesday November 13th for an 8:00pm tipoff from the Goldring Centre.
