The Windsor Lancer women's volleyball team lost a deuce of games this weekend to the Queen's Gaels up in Kingston.
On Friday the Lancers were defeated 3-0 (18-25, 17-25, and 20-25) while on Saturday the blue and gold fell 3-0 (16-25, 21-25, 20-25) again to the tricolour at the Queen's ARC.
WEEKEND STATS
Aliah Admans led the Lancers offensively with 10 kills on Friday and another 12 added on Saturday.
Danika Scharff also had a solid performance this weekend on Friday with her two service aces, 3 blocks and 25 assists as the Lancer playmaker thrived defensively too with 7 digs behind Admans team lead of 9. Scharff also distributed another 22 assists on Saturday and recorded another service ace for the blue and gold.
FRIDAY GAME FLOW
The opening set on Friday resulted in even play from both sides as the Gaels broke away toward the midway stage of the set and did not look back locking up a 25-18 first set win and 1-0 match lead.
The second set started off even again before Queen's continued to break open the deadlock during the midpoint of the set to eventually cruise to a similar result as the first with their 25-17 win to go up 2-0.
On the verge of a sweep, the Gaels gained a massive eleven-point lead with a 14-3 advantage on the scoreboard and did not give the Lancers any hope of extending the match.
However, to Windsor's credit, they battled back to shrink the deficit down to a 22-17 score which then became a short of a four-point margin that helped to erase the large lead against them before they simply ran out of points space to achieve the monumental comeback effort as Queen's closed out the set 25-20 and the match with their 3-0 victory on home floor.
SATURDAY GAME FLOW
Queen's controlled the pace of the opening set of the rematch on Saturday to coast to an eventual 25-16 first set win to go up 1-0 in the match with strong consistent play.
The second set was by far a more even tilt with both teams equally in the hunt looking to take the second to their side into the third.
However, the Gaels managed to stay on top of the Lancers down the stretch with a kill and service ace to clinch a 2-0 match lead with their 25-21 second set win.
The third set went the way of the Gaels as well despite Windsor giving it all they had to try and prolong the match but in the end Queen's proved to be too much for the Lancers as they fell 25-20 and 3-0 to the hosts which now sets Windsor's record at 4-2 on the young season.
