SUNDAY STATS
The Lancers were led once again by
Daniel Cummings offensively who put up a season high of 27 points in the home victory that included 7-three pointers made.
With the hot three-point performance, Cummings moved up to third on the all-time Windsor Lancers men's basketball program record charts (just behind distinguished Lancer men's basketball alumni Mike Rocca with 8 and Telloy Simon the current record holder for most three pointers made in a single game as a Lancer with 10).
Yohann Sam chipped in with 14 points while
Denzel Cummins and
Segun Akimbulumo further contributed with 11 points each.
Xavier Ochu was quite the glass cleaner picking up 10 rebounds throughout the contest to help Windsor snag the victory over Guelph.
Guelph's leading scorer was Dezayne Mingo who scored a game high of 30 points in the loss to the Lancers.
HOW IT HAPPENED ON SUNDAY
On Sunday the Lancers returned home with a rejuvenated spirit wanting to avenge Friday's loss with a home match up with the Gryphons.
In the first quarter, a closely contested scoring affair proved to be almost equal where the Lancers narrowly edged the Gryphons 23-22 to close out the first on top.
Before halftime came the Lancers went on a scoring rampage in the second quarter outscoring Guelph 26-7 and leading at halftime by a whopping twenty-point lead to make it a score of 49-29.
The third quarter saw the Lancers return with more stable play which was nearly matched again by the Gryphons who managed to drop 18 while the Lancers added 19 points to make it 68-47 Windsor going into the fourth.
With the large lead, perhaps the Lancers may have felt at the moment that they could let up a little bit against the Gryphons but that came with Guelph storming back into the contest outscoring Windsor 31-15 in the fourth and final quarter to make it an interesting ball game in the late stages of the game.
A buzzing atmosphere both on and off the court made it a dramatic finish for both sides but in the end the Lancers achieved victory in holding on to an 83-78 final score in Windsor in front of a raucous home crowd in attendance at the Toldo Lancer Centre despite a valiant and resilient late game Guelph Gryphons comeback attempt.
With the victory Windsor improves to 3-14 on the season while Guelph drops to 5-12.
