The Windsor Lancer women's soccer team went toe-to-toe with the Western Mustangs on Sunday afternoon, ending the match with a 1-0 loss.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
The blue and gold traveled to London for an afternoon showing at the Mustang's Alumni Field. Last season, the teams split the weekend doubleheader, and this matchup promised to be another close contest.
Â
Both sides opened the first half with strong defensive tactics. Goalkeeper
Izzy Barrette and Captain
Kat Campana anchored the Lancer defense, successfully fending off the Mustang attack through the initial 45 minutes of gameplay.
Â
Kailyn Robertson and
Olivia Corazza led promising offensive pushes late in the half, but the double goose eggs remained locked at the halftime whistle.
Â
In the second frame, Western found a breakthrough in the 80
th minute, scoring the game's first and only goal. The Mustangs then increased their pressure, forcing three corner kicks in the final minutes in Lancer territory.
Â
Despite the Lancer efforts, the late-game goal proved decisive, as the Mustangs secured three points on the weekend.
