The Windsor Lancer women's basketball team split the weekend in Waterloo against the Waterloo Warriors and Laurier Golden Hawks.
FRIDAY STATS
Reine Ndome and Julia Chiarot hit double figures, scoring 16 and 12 points respectively.
Teighan Stoukas led the team with 6 rebounds.
The Lancers shot 42.9% from the charity line and 31.9% from the floor.
HOW IT HAPPENED FRIDAY
Waterloo opened strong in front of their home crowd, outscoring the Lancers 17-9 in the first quarter. Windsor regrouped in the second quarter, flipping the script with a 22-9 run to take a 31-26 lead into halftime.
Both teams brought the energy in the third frame, earning 13 points apiece. The game was decided in the final seconds of the fourth quarter. Tied at 56, the Warriors drew a foul in Lancer territory with just 0.8 seconds left. Sinking both free throws, Waterloo edged out a narrow 58-56 victory over the blue and gold.
SATURDAY STATS
Ndome and Chiarot once again reached double figures, joined by Harriet Carey, scoring 12, 19, and 11 points respectively.
Stoukas topped the night in rebounds, earning 6 on the field.
Windsor shot 88.2% from the free throw line and 30.4% from the field.
HOW IT HAPPENED SATURDAY
The blue and gold bounced back Saturday night against Laurier.
Similar to Friday night, the first quarter saw the opposition take an early lead, with Laurier up 21-17. Windsor responded in the second quarter, outscoring the Golden Hawks 20-15 to hold a slim 37-36 edge at halftime.
The second half was a tight contest, with both teams trading baskets. With one minute remaining, Laurier grabbed a narrow lead. However, Kali Grootenboer hit a clutch free throw, and Carey followed with a pivotal three-pointer to put the blue and gold ahead by one. The Lancers held strong on defense, denying any late opportunities and securing the win.
UP NEXT
The blue and gold return home next weekend. On Friday, the women play the York Lions at 6:00 pm at the Toldo Lancer Centre. Then, on Saturday, the Lancers will battle against the Guelph Gryphons at 4:00 pm for the annual Shoot for Change game.
