Lancers Lock Down Weekend Series Against Algoma

The Windsor Lancer men's basketball team hit their stride in Sault Ste. Marie with back-to-back wins in their weekend series against the Algoma Thunderbirds.  

FRIDAY STATS 

Simeon Smith led the Lancer charge with 8 rebounds and 17 points, earning 7 shots from the field and shooting a perfect 3-for-3 from the charity stripe. 

Yashar Greaves-SaadatYohann Sam, and Lorenzo Barbieri also marked double figures, contributing 11, 10, and 10 points respectively. 

In all, the men went 65.4% from the charity line and 46.3% from the field.  

HOW IT HAPPENED FRIDAY 

The Lancers tipped off their weekend series against the Algoma Thunderbirds with a tightly contested first quarter, narrowly outscoring their hosts 15-14. However, the blue and gold found their rhythm in the second frame, out working Algoma 25-12 to head into halftime with the momentum firmly on their side. 

The second half saw Windsor lock down on defense and keep up their offensive pressure, putting up 23 points in each of the final two quarters. Ultimately, the Lancers earned a decisive 86-57 victory to open the weekend.  

SATURDAY STATS 

Smith again led the pack with 19 points and 5 rebounds.  

Emanuel Otong, Greaves-Saadat, and Ryan Wasylyshyn each hit double digits, scoring 14, 13, and 10 points respectively. 

Wasylynshyn also proved a strong presence in the paint, marking an impressive 12 rebounds. 

Overall, the men shot 39.7% from the field and 64.5% from the free throw line.  

HOW IT HAPPENED SATURDAY 

The men had a slow start to game 2, managing 8 points in the opening frame. However, they rallied in the second quarter, overtaking the Thunderbirds and eking out a slim 1-point lead by halftime.  

In the third quarter, Windsor turned up the intensity, scoring 22 points while tightening their defense to push their lead to 11. With a balanced finale with 15 points earned on each side, the Lancers' earlier surge proved decisive as they held on for a solid 11-point win.  

UP NEXT  

The Lancers will remain on the road next weekend as they travel to Guelph. The blue and gold will tip off against the Gryphons on Friday, January 31 at 8:00pm.
