Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Lancers open season with two home wins

The University of Windsor Lancers women's volleyball team started off their season with two exciting wins against the Nipissing Lakers on home court on Friday (Oct. 24) and Saturday (Oct. 25) at Toldo Lancer Centre.

FRIDAY
The Lancers went up two sets to none quickly against Nipissing, but the Lakers battled back to force a fifth set, including a 28-26 fourth set. The Lancers found their game again in the fifth and closed out the game with a decisive final set, holding Nipissing to just a .043 hitting percentage to win the game. In addition to being the first win of the season, this win marked the first in interim head coach Drew Foster's OUA head coaching career.

The Lancer offense was a catalyst throughout the game, collectively hitting at a .221 rate. Aliah Admans started her fourth season off with a dominating 21-point effort, including 18 kills and five digs. Jordyn Brearley efficiently attacked the Laker defense, hitting at a .323 clip for 13 kills and 17 points. Aryn Markett recorded seven kills and three service aces. Setter Danika Scharff picked up 46 assists.

Defensively, Anna Scarfe's 13 digs led the way, while Markett had 11 and Scharff 9. Scharff had two solo blocks and five block assists. Hope Simpson also had five block assists.
Oceane Raymond-Leduc led the Lakers with 20 kills and 26.5 points. Paige Owen had 14 kills and eight digs, while Jada Weir led Nipissing with 15 digs.

SATURDAY
Saturday saw the same early success for the Lancers as Friday, taking the first set 25-16 and second 25-20. The Lakers took the third, but Windsor decisively ended the game with a 25-18 fourth set for their second win in as many days.

Admans put together an impressive afternoon, tallying 12 kills, four service aces, and a team-leading 14 digs for 18 points. Brearley (14.0), Markett (13.5), Raiya Millin (12.0), and Simpson (10.5) all eclipsed ten-plus points. Brearley, Market, and Millin all had ten kills each, and Scharff had another proficient afternoon with 40 assists.

Raymond-Leduc once again was the key force for Nipissing on both sides of the ball, recording 26 points, 23 kills, and 13 digs.
