Lancers drop home opener to Gaels

The University of Windsor Lancers women's basketball team took on the Queen's Gaels in their home opener on Friday, Oct. 31 at Toldo Lancer Centre, falling by a score of 68-56.

GAME FLOW
Queen's started hot out of the opening tip-off, getting out to an 11-2 midway through the first quarter on the back of seven points from Hailey Barbieri in the first ten minutes. The Lancers trimmed the deficit before the end of the quarter, closing the gap to 15-9. The Lancers brought the game to a one-point differential by the end of the half, with Leah Tate hitting a buzzer-beating three-pointer to make it 32-31. The Gaels pulled ahead in the third and held on, outscoring Windsor 36-25 in the final twenty minutes for a 68-56 win.

STATS
Leah Tate paced Windsor with 16 points, including a buzzer-beating three-pointer to end the first half. Kali Grootenboer followed close behind with 15 points on 70% shooting while picking up eight rebounds. Teighan Stoukas had five rebounds and had three steals along with Grootenboer and Julia Chiarot. Jade Hunte had six points, four rebounds, three assists, and two steals off the bench.

Kiayara Letlow's 17 points led the Gaels, followed by 12 from Hailey Barbieri, who had seven in the first quarter alone. Letlow also grabbed nine rebounds, four assists, and three steals.
