The University of Windsor Lancers women's hockey team earned a 4–1 victory over the visiting Western Mustangs on Friday (Nov. 21) evening at the Capri Pizzeria Recreation Complex in Windsor, Ont.
STATS
Windsor out-shot Western 31–27, while goaltender Ella Willoughby was sharp between the pipes, turning aside 26 of 27 shots for a .963 save percentage in the win. Offensively, Teagan Paré led the way with two goals, while Elissa Benjamin and Bryn Rutledge each added one. Amber Esterbrooks collected two assists, and Phoebe Gao, Maggie Mitani, and Bailey Radovich each chipped in an assist.
GAME FLOW
Western opened the scoring just five minutes into the first period with Avry Pedersen capitalizing on an early opportunity. Despite the setback, Windsor settled defensively, and Willoughby kept the deficit at one heading into the first intermission.
The second period proved to be the turning point. After sustained pressure, Teagan Paré found the equalizer late in the frame, burying a setup from Bailey Radovich. Moments later, Elissa Benjamin struck for the Lancers again with a top-shelf finish on a breakaway, giving Windsor its first lead at 2–1. The momentum clearly shifted, and the Lancers carried that energy into the third.
Windsor continued to press in the final period, adding insurance goals with Paré netting her second of the night and Bryn Rutledge adding another, with both being assisted by Amber Esterbrooks to put the game out of reach. With the offense rolling and Willoughby steady in net, the Lancers closed out a convincing home victory and returned to the win column.
