Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Windsor splits final regular season weekend

The Windsor Lancer men's basketball team wrapped up their 2024-25 regular season campaign at the Toldo Lancer Centre on Friday and Saturday night.

On Friday the Lancers hosted the Laurier Golden Hawks in what was a postponed make-up game that was rescheduled due to inclement weather earlier in the week where the Lancers emerged victorious 75-69 over the Golden Hawks.

On Saturday Windsor tipped off against the Waterloo Warriors and dropped a tight 65-64 decision on Seniors' Night to the Warriors but despite the loss punched a ticket to qualify for the upcoming playoffs starting this week.

WEEKEND STATS
Simeon Smith led the Lancers offensively on both nights with 22 points produced on Friday's win over Laurier and added another 20 points on Saturday against Waterloo.

Luke Grace had a big offensive performance on Friday as well helping to lift the Lancers over Laurier with his 18-point performance. Lorenzo Barbieri also contributed heavily to Friday's win with 11 rebounds grabbed for the blue and gold.

Barbieri also produced 11 points in Saturday's loss while Yashar Greaves-Saadat drained 12 points for Windsor despite coming up just short to Waterloo.

FRIDAY GAME FLOW
Windsor outscored Laurier 22-14 in the opening ten minutes of play.  Grace led the quarter with 8 points going 3-3 on field goals including 2-2 on three-pointers made.

A closer tilt followed up in the second quarter with the Lancers making it out of the first half ahead 38-28.

Laurier owned the third quarter offensively outscoring the Lancers 20-14 inching back into the contest despite Windsor leading 52-48 on the Golden Hawks.

The purple and gold battled hard in the fourth quarter to try and match the offensive flow of the blue and gold, but the Lancers were able to stay the course and edge the Golden Hawks on a 23-21 scoring run to close out the game 75-69 to earn the win in Windsor.

SATURDAY GAME FLOW
The Lancers came out ahead in the first quarter leading 20-14 on the Warriors.

In the second quarter Waterloo outscored Windsor 18-12 to make the game deadlocked at 32-32 going into halftime.

The blue and gold came out with more offensive prowess in the third quarter outscoring Waterloo 16-13 with Smith generating 10 of the Lancer points in the quarter.

Waterloo would go on to outscore Windsor 20-16 in the fourth quarter to give them the boost needed to slightly edge out the Lancers down the stretch 65-64 serving Windsor their tenth loss of the season to close out the regular season with a 12-10 record on the campaign.

UP NEXT
The Lancers will now prepare for their upcoming OUA Round 1 playoff match up on Wednesday night at 7:00pm against the Laurentian Voyageurs looking to earn a spot in the OUA Quarterfinals that would be played on Saturday.
