Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Double wins lock Lancers in first in OUA West

The No. 9 Windsor Lancer women's basketball team tipped off against the Laurier Golden Hawks on Friday night and again on Saturday evening against the Waterloo Warriors to round out the remainder of the 2024-25 OUA regular season before the postseason.

On Friday, there was no love lost on the court for the blue and gold as they took down the Golden Hawks 71-64 in what was a make-up game rescheduled from earlier in the week.

Meanwhile the next day, Windsor took care of business once again at the Toldo Lancer Centre with an 86-54 victory over the Warriors on what was Seniors' Night for the Lancers.

WEEKEND STATS
On Friday, Kali Grootenboer led the Lancers rush offensively with 14 points while Leah Tate produced 12 points and Jade Hunte put up 10 points in the win in Windsor.

Harriet Carey grabbed 11 rebounds while Reine Ndome nabbed 10 rebounds to help the Lancers take the win over Laurier on Valentine's Day.

On Saturday, Tate led the way offensively with her 19-point performance going 6-11 on field goals including 5-7 three-pointers made.  Julia Chiarot had 13 points and Mya Iriah contributed 12 points on the scoreboard to help the Lancers get past the Warriors.

FRIDAY GAME FLOW
The Lancers came out of the gate hot outscoring the Golden Hawks 22-12 in the first quarter.  Iriah led the charge offensively with 6 points scored throughout the opening frame of the game.

In the second quarter the blue and gold were challenged by the purple and gold who were able to produce more points on the board as the Golden Hawks outscored Windsor 25-15 to bring the score to a tied game at halftime stalemated at 37-37.

Both squads would produce a steady offensive flow in the third quarter, but the Lancers earned the slight scoring edge putting up 21-18 making the score 58-55 at the end of the quarter.

In the fourth, both teams' defensive schemes troubled one another's offense tightening down scoring production to 13-9 in favour of the Lancers who were able to get over the late game stretch and earn a tenacious 71-64 win over Laurier at the TLC.

SATURDAY GAME FLOW
Both squads battled hard throughout the first quarter with Windsor coming out ahead 20-15 during the opening 10 minutes of the contest.

The Lancers offense exploded in the second quarter coming alive off of 4-5 three-point shots made along with quality successful free throw production going 8-9 from the charity stripe.  With those contributing factors the blue and gold outscored the Warriors 34-15 to go into halftime up 54-30 on the visitors.

Waterloo was able to slow down the Lancers in the third as the black and gold battled back a bit to start off the second half outscoring Windsor 12-6 making the score 60-42 in favour of the hosts by the end of the quarter.

In the fourth quarter, the blue and gold sparked more offensive production once more going a 26-12 run outscoring Waterloo to cruise past the Warriors 86-54 to wrap up the regular season with an 18-4 record and lock up the first place in the OUA West Division.
