BRANDON, Man. – The Windsor Lancers fought until the final point but came up short against the Alberta Golden Bears, falling 3-0 in a tightly contested match at the BU Healthy Living Centre on Friday afternoon.
GAME STATS
Gustavo Siqueira led the Lancers with 11 kills and five digs, while Darian Koskie and Anthony Ivanovski contributed eight and six kills, respectively. U SPORTS all-Canadian Markus Law-Heese facilitated the attack with his team-leading 36 assists, and Quintin Greenidge anchored the defense with three digs.
Koskie was named Windsor's player of the game.
GAME FLOW
The Lancers had a slow start in the opening set, struggling to break through Alberta's strong defensive presence. Despite a few key kills from Koskie and Chase Bridges, Windsor couldn't match Alberta's efficiency, dropping the set 25-17.
Alberta continued to apply pressure in the second set, forcing Windsor into early errors. The Lancers found some rhythm with Siqueira and Ivanovski stepping up offensively, but Alberta's consistent attack and well-timed blocks kept Windsor at bay. The Golden Bears claimed the set 25-15, putting Windsor in a must-win situation.
The third set was a thriller, with Windsor showing incredible resilience. The Lancers pushed Alberta to the limit, going point-for-point in a dramatic back-and-forth battle. Siqueira delivered clutch plays at the net, while Markus Law-Heese controlled the offense. Despite their determined effort, Windsor fell just short in an extended 37-35 set, sealing the match for Alberta.
