Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Lancers still searching for first win of 2025 season

In a weekend of intensity and momentum shifts, the Windsor Lancer men's soccer team battled hard but ultimately came up short in their weekend series against a resilient Waterloo Warriors.

The blue and gold dropped a 3-1 decision Friday night, followed by a 3-2 loss on Sunday in Waterloo.

FRIDAY
Friday night's clash was a tightly contested battle from start to finish. The Lancers took a deserved 1-0 lead into halftime thanks to a brilliant volley strike by midfielder Matthew Chimienti in the final minute of the first half. The Lancers were aggressive early, creating several chances and racking up nine shots and six corner kicks, putting consistent pressure on the Warriors' backline.

Unfortunately, the strong start couldn't be sustained into the second half. Waterloo responded with a noticeable shift in momentum, picking up their attacking tempo and finding success in the air. The Warriors equalized with a well-executed header in the 71st minute, followed by another headed goal in the 84th. Just minutes later, Waterloo's Benicio Marcella, capped off the comeback with a decisive counter-attack goal in the 87th minute to seal a 3-1 victory.

SUNDAY
Sunday's matchup proved to be another tightly contested fixture. The Warriors took an early lead, scoring twice within the first 25 minutes. However, forward Nico Fontecha responded before halftime with his first goal of the 2025 season, cutting the deficit to 2-1.

Building on that momentum, the Lancers struck again early in the second half, with Wilchrist Abdo netting the equalizer - his first goal of the campaign. Despite the strong comeback effort, Waterloo regained the lead in the 80th minute and held on for a 3-2 victory, leaving the Lancers still in search of their first win of the season.
