Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Lancers come up short to Gryphons

The University of Windsor Lancers men's basketball team fell on the road to the Guelph Gryphons by a score of 91–79 on Saturday night at the W.F. Mitchell Athletic Centre in Guelph, Ont.

GAME FLOW
Windsor kept pace early, matching Guelph point-for-point in the opening quarter and heading into halftime trailing by just four after a competitive first half. The Gryphons broke the game open in the third quarter, using a decisive scoring surge to create separation before the Lancers were able to settle in defensively.

The teams were deadlocked at 21 after the first quarter, and Guelph carried a slim 46–42 advantage into the break. The turning point came in the third, where the Gryphons poured in 35 points to Windsor's 18, building a lead that proved too much to overcome despite the Lancers holding Guelph to just 10 points in the final quarter.

STATS
Shooting efficiency and the third-quarter run defined the contest. Windsor shot 35.5% from the field and 29.2% from beyond the arc, while Guelph connected at a 47.1% clip and knocked down nearly half of its three-point attempts. The Lancers held a significant 49–35 advantage on the glass, including 19 offensive rebounds, but were unable to fully capitalize, while free throws also factored in, with Windsor shooting 64.3% at the line.

Bronson Chambers led the way for Windsor with a team-high 20 points, adding 12 rebounds and four assists in a strong all-around performance. Emanuel Otong chipped in 18 points and eight rebounds, while Luke Grace recorded a double-double with 16 points and 10 boards. Andrew Cook added 11 points, and the Lancers finished with 17 assists as a team.

For Guelph, Eric Armstrong powered the offense with a game-high 33 points on 12-of-18 shooting, adding eight rebounds. Jack Tunstill contributed 19 points, six rebounds, and five assists, while Amare Hamilton added 15 points off the bench.

UP NEXT
With the loss, Windsor moves to 6–7 on the season, while Guelph improves to 7–7 overall. The Lancers will look to bounce back in their next outing as they continue conference play, returning to action next week against the Waterloo Warriors in Waterloo, Ont. Tip-off on Friday, January 16 is set for 8 p.m. and the game can be seen live on oua.tv.
