Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

Lancers fall to Bold in divisional battle

The University of Windsor Lancers men's hockey team were unable to hold off the TMU Bold on Friday (Jan. 16) night at the Capri Pizzeria Recreation Complex, dropping a 4–1 decision to the visiting Bold. The defeat came as Windsor returned home following a road game, looking to carry momentum back onto home ice but failing in the end to a strong third-period push from TMU.

STATS
Windsor held a slight edge in shots, outshooting TMU 28–27 on the night. Goaltender Max Donoso turned aside 23 shots in the loss, while TMU's Kai Edmonds was solid at the other end, stopping 27 of 28 attempts. Keegan McMullen accounted for Windsor's lone goal, scoring on the power play, with helpers from Matt McNamara and Aaron Shaw. Toronto Metropolitan received scoring from Marko Djordjevic, William Portokalis (2), and Brock McLeod, with Portokalis also adding a shorthanded marker.

GAME FLOW
The Lancers opened the scoring midway through the first period, capitalizing on the power play as Keegan McMullen buried a feed from Matt McNamara and Aaron Shaw to give Windsor an early 1–0 advantage. Toronto Metropolitan answered back later in the period, with Marko Djordjevic scoring an unassisted goal to send the game into the first intermission tied 1–1.

The second period was a tight, defensive battle, with neither team able to find the back of the net despite several chances at both ends. The game broke open in the third, as TMU took the lead with a shorthanded goal from William Portokalis. The Bold added an insurance marker from Brock McLeod midway through the frame before Portokalis sealed the outcome with an empty-net goal late in regulation, handing Windsor a 4–1 loss.

UP NEXT
The Lancers will look to regroup as they prepare for their next matchup tomorrow night at home against Western Mustangs, aiming to rebound from Friday night's setback and get back into the win column as the season continues. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Saturday (Jan. 17). Tickets are available online at golancers.ca/tickets and the game can be streamed via oua.tv.
