Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Cameron's hat-trick leads Lancers to road win at Ottawa

The University of Windsor Lancers women's hockey team captured 4-2 a win in Ottawa, Ont. on Saturday (Jan. 17) afternoon against the Ottawa Gee-Gees, lead by a hat trick from Bridget Cameron.

STATS
Cameron's first hat trick of her career were the seventh, eighth, and ninth goals of her season. Amber Esterbrooks added the other Lancer goal, which stood as the eventual game-winner. Defender Teagan Paré drew two assists in the game, with Lizzie Bird having the other Windsor helper. Rebecca Noble stopped 31 of 33 shots in her second game of the weekend.

Beatrice Bilodeau had a goal and an assist for Ottawa, with Gillian Warren scoring the other Gee-Gees goal. Naomi Morin had two assists and Reagan Samson another. Lauren Mooney made 24 saves between the pipes.

GAME FLOW
Windsor opened the scoring early on Cameron's first goal of the game, as she buried a pass from Paré just 93 seconds into the game. The Lancers put 12 more shots on net throughout the period, and Cameron broke through again late in the period on a deep wrist shot past Mooney.

Amber Esterbrooks broke the game open early in the second period. Stepping out of the penalty box, she jumped on a loose puck at centre ice and beat the Gee-Gees defenders to go into the zone on a breakaway, firing a low glove shot into the back of the net for her second goal of the season. Bilodeau got one back for Ottawa with five to play in the period, but the Lancers held firm and took a 3-1 lead into the second intermission.

Cameron completed the hat trick five minutes into the third period as she was on the receiving end of a breakout bank pass from Bird that gave her a breakaway, and she made no mistake with a beautiful deke to the backhand. Warren netted a goal late to cut the lead to two as the Gee-Gees put 12 shots on Noble in the third, but Cameron's career night was the difference maker in the Lancer 4-2 win.
