Pair of sweeps sees Lancers power past Warriors

The University of Windsor Lancers women's volleyball team continued their hot start to 2026 with a pair of straight sets wins over the Waterloo Warriors at the Toldo Lancer Centre on January 16-17.

The Lancers earned a straight-sets victory over the Waterloo Warriors on Friday night at the Toldo Lancer Centre, winning 25-20, 26-24, and 25-16.

Windsor controlled the match with steady improvement across the three sets, finishing with a .281 team hitting percentage while holding Waterloo to .100. The Lancers closed out a tight second set before pulling away decisively in the third behind an efficient offensive performance.

Aliah Admans led all players with 14 points, recording 12 kills on a .478 hitting percentage while adding two service aces. Geneva Huisman was nearly flawless offensively, finishing with nine kills on 10 attempts for a .900 efficiency, along with five total blocks for 12.5 points. Jordyn Brearley also contributed at the net with nine points, including four total blocks.

Setter Danika Scharff directed the Windsor offense with 29 assists while adding two block assists and nine digs. As a team, the Lancers totaled 10 block assists and four solo blocks to limit Waterloo's attack.

For the Warriors, Sydney Batiuk paced the offense with 13 points on 12 kills, while Avery Isaacs added nine points and led the team with two solo blocks. Berkley MacLean anchored the backcourt with a team-high 10 digs, and Madison Seo distributed 21 assists in the loss. 

SATURDAY
Saturday afternoon saw another game in which the Lancers came out on top in all three sets, with set scores of 25-22, 25-15, and 29-27.

The opening set was tightly contested, with the Lancers pulling away late to secure the 25-22 decision. Windsor found more separation in the second, using a balanced attack and steady serving pressure to take the frame 25-15. Waterloo pushed Windsor to the limit in the third set, fending off multiple match points, but the Lancers ultimately closed out the match with a 29-27 win in an intense third set.

Windsor shut down Waterloo's attack all game long with just one set of a positive hitting percentage allowed, forcing the Warriors to hit -.027 in the first set, .000 in the second set, and .150 in the third set. The Lancers hit .155 as a collective, including .250 in the second set and .234 in a hard-fought and intense third set that went to 29-27.

For Windsor, Aliah Admans paced all players with 15 points, finishing with nine kills, four aces, and four block assists. Elle O'Connell followed closely with 11 points on a career-high 10 kills and strong defensive play, collecting 11 digs. Danika Scharff ran an effective Lancer attack, tallying 30 assists while hitting .500 and adding a service ace. The Lancers had multiple contributors at the net, finishing with 18 total team blocks.

Sydney Batiuk led the Warriors offensively, recording a team-high 14.5 points on 11 kills and three service aces, while also contributing seven digs. Stella McKenna added 7.5 points with six kills, and Avery Isaacs was efficient at the net, finishing with five block assists and a .375 hitting percentage.

The Lancers improve their record to 11-3 with the home sweep while the Warriors now sit a 7-7. Windsor will hit the road next weekend with a pair of games in the nation's capital against the 7-4 Ottawa Gee-Gees. First serve on Friday, January 23 in Ottawa, Ont. is set for 7 p.m. and can be streamed online via oua.tv.
