The University of Windsor Lancers women's basketball team picked up a 71–56 win over the Waterloo Warriors on Friday (Jan. 30) night at the Toldo Lancer Centre, using a dominant start to take control early and maintain separation throughout the contest. Windsor dictated the pace from the opening tip and never trailed, earning another important conference victory on home court.
GAME FLOW
Windsor opened the game with authority, jumping out to a 24–11 lead after the first quarter behind strong defensive pressure and control of the glass. The Lancers continued to build momentum in the second quarter, outscoring Waterloo 18–14 to take a 42–25 advantage into halftime. Waterloo attempted to claw back in the second half, but Windsor answered with a solid third quarter, winning the frame 20–15 before closing out the game despite Waterloo's late push in the fourth.
Rebounding and three-point shooting defined the game for the Lancers. Windsor finished with a 50–42 edge on the boards, including 22 offensive rebounds that created second-chance opportunities throughout the night. The Lancers also knocked down 12 three-pointers at a 38.7% clip, while holding Waterloo to just 2-of-13 shooting from beyond the arc. Windsor forced 12 Warrior turnovers and limited Waterloo to 56 points overall.

Kali Grootenboer led the Lancers with a strong double-double performance, recording 15 points and 13 rebounds while adding three assists and a block. Leah Tate provided a scoring boost from the perimeter with 16 points, connecting on four three-pointers. Julia Chiarot contributed a well-rounded outing with 10 points, eight rebounds, and four assists, while Jade Hunte added seven points and six rebounds off the bench.
Waterloo was led by Kymora Stafford, who finished with 12 points and eight rebounds. Carina Fiore and Yemi Oladipo each added nine points, while Ashlyn Norris pulled down a team-high nine rebounds in the loss.

With the win, Windsor improves to 14-4 as they continue to fight for the top spot in the OUA West. The Lancers will look to keep rolling as they continue play tomorrow at home against the Laurier Golden Hawks. Tip-off on Saturday, January 31 is set for 4 p.m. at the Toldo Lancer Centre.
