Women's hockey sweeps Toronto trip with win at Ridgebacks

The University of Windsor Lancers women's hockey team earned a hard-fought 2–1 road victory over the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks on Saturday (Jan. 31) afternoon, showing resilience and defensive discipline to come back and secure the win in Oshawa, Ont. After conceding the opening goal in the first period, Windsor responded with goals in each of the final two frames while limiting the Ridgebacks' chances to close out the one-goal victory.

Windsor held the advantage in shots, outshooting Ontario Tech 37–24. Lancer goaltender Rebecca Noble was strong between the pipes, stopping 23 of 24 shots to earn the win. Ontario Tech netminder Zoe McGee kept her team in the contest with an impressive performance, turning aside 35 of 37 shots despite sustained pressure from Windsor.

Offensively, Bridget Cameron and Teagan Paré provided the scoring for the Lancers, while Paré also added an assist for a two-point night. Keana McKibbin and Elissa Benjamin chipped in with assists on the game-winning goal.

GAME FLOW
Ontario Tech opened the scoring late in the first period, as Harrie Jones scored off assists from Julia Jackson and Emily Harrison to give the Ridgebacks a 1–0 lead. Windsor generated chances throughout the frame but was unable to solve Zoe McGee before the intermission.

The Lancers evened the score late in the second period when Bridget Cameron scored on a long wrist shot past McGee, sending the teams into the break tied 1–1. Windsor carried momentum into the third, controlling play and limiting Ontario Tech's offensive opportunities.

In the final period, Paré delivered the game-winning goal converting on a shot from the high slot, with assists from Elissa Benjamin and Keana McKibbin to give Windsor its first lead of the game that they would hold on to. The Lancers shut things down defensively the rest of the way, with Rebecca Noble making key saves to preserve the 2–1 victory.
