Men's Soccer victorious over Algoma

The University of Windsor Lancers men's soccer team wrapped up their regular season home schedule Friday night (Oct. 9) at Alumni Stadium, defeating the Algoma Thunderbirds 3-2.

STATS
The blue and gold have recorded their first home victory of the season and their first win versus Algoma since September 25, 2022.

Freshman Ryan Hickson took sole control of the team's goal-scoring leaderboard tonight (3), and first-year Odette School of Business goalie Luca Vano also posted his first victory at the OUA level.

The Thunderbirds posted a game-high eight yellow cards, the latter half of which came in the final 30 minutes, and four players each had one shot each. Algoma goalie Josh Bondoc made five saves for the visitors to complete their final road trip of 2026.

GAME FLOW
The Lancers got to their game early, especially in the penalty box through headers off corner kicks, as Faculty of Human Kinetics Captain Mateo Nepszy and Faculty of Engineering forward Ryan Hickson scored two goals within the first 12 minutes.

Windsor continued its pressure throughout the initial frame, culminating with a game-high eight shots. The pressure really got to Algoma as halftime approached as they recorded three yellow cards in the final five minutes.

To begin the latter frame, however, the Thunderbirds tied the game in between their fourth yellow card (56') as biology student Brandon Ali (53') and United Kingdom native Luke Broadhurst (58') scored their first OUA goals.

In the 95th minute, Ryan Hickson scored his second goal of the game to complete the back-and-forth nature of tonight's matchup and cap off his best OUA showing to date. All three Windsor goals were initiated by set pieces.
