The University of Windsor Lancer softball team continued their season this weekend (Oct. 2-4) on a three day road trip at Guelph, Laurier, and Brock, posting two wins in six games.
Friday
Windsor started its weekend beautifully with a 7-0 shutout versus Guelph, led by three hits and as many runs batted in (RBI) from two-way player
Jayde Melhuish-McGahan; furthermore, the Chatham, Ont. native pitched a complete game (7 IP) with three strikeouts and just one walk.
Fellow two-way player
Chloe Jones, a second-year Faculty of Human Kinetics student, also went four-for-four at shortstop with two runs batted in, while
Emma Hanley,
Elise Stammler, and
Soleen DePape combined for six walks offensively.
In Game 2, however, the Gryphons squeaked by the Lancers with a 3-2 win through two-sixth inning runs from Schmidt and Sideris, as well as a six-inning showing from pitcher Kaley Doerfler. The blue and gold received two fourth-inning RBIs from
Chloe Jones and
Sienna Gale, while
Chloe Jones and
Jayde Melhuish-McGahan also pitched three innings each.
Saturday
Like they did on Friday in Guelph, Windsor started the day strong in Waterloo versus the Golden Hawks, scoring six runs in the final two innings and winning 6-2. Engineering major
Emma Hanley, biomedical sciences student
Sienna Gale, and two-way political science student Grace Shakleton each contributed two RBIs. Kinesiology student
Tia Nelson added three walks of her own in Game 1.
Laurier, however, got the best of Windsor in Game 2, winning 12-2 with no errors. Merritt (4), Halstead (3), and Hughes (2) combined for nine RBIs, while
Elise Stammler pitched five innings. The Lancers, meanwhile, countered with nine hits of their own, six of which came from
Emma Hanley,
Chloe Jones, and fourth-year catcher
Jacqueline Pento.
Jacqueline Pento and
Ava Merritt contributed both RBIs for the blue and gold.
Sunday
The Lancers completed their weekend in St. Catharines by dropping both games at Lancaster Park. In Game 1, the blue and gold started strong with a 3-0 lead largely through two RBIs by
Chloe Jones, but a seven-run third-inning catapulted Brock to a 10-3 victory. Emma Poulton, Allegra Ferreira, and Emma Young posted six RBIs, while Poulton added five innings on the mound.
In the latter half of the doubleheader, an inside-the-park home run and a fielder's choice for Brock's Ella George was just enough to squeak by the Lancers 3-2; additionally,
Ainsley Lane pitched over five innings of two-hit ball for the Badgers. For the blue and gold, while
Chloe Jones and
Jayde Melhuish-McGahan reached home plate, it was too little too late.

Windsor completes its regular season next weekend at Mic Mac Park with senior's day as the Brock Badgers come to town for a doubleheader. Game 1 goes Sat., Oct. 10 at 2:00 p.m., while Game 2 will begin at 4:00 p.m.
