The University of Windsor Lancers women's hockey team dropped a hard-fought 2–1 decision to the Brock Badgers on Saturday (Feb. 21) afternoon at home, battling through a tight OUA play-in contest that ultimately swung in the middle frame to end their postseason.
STATS
Windsor outshot Brock 27–24, registering nine shots in each period. Lancer goaltender Payne Oltrop made 22 saves on 24 shots in her first game of the season, while Brock's Megan Thiessen earned the win with 26 stops on 27 shots. GAME FLOW
A scoreless opening period saw Windsor hold a 9–5 edge in shots, but Thiessen turned aside every chance sent her way to keep the game even through 20 minutes.
Brock broke through in the second period as Randyll Strongman converted a feed from Allison Stevenson and Jenna Duarte to open the scoring. The Lancers responded minutes later when Hollohan buried a rebound from a Benjamin shot to even the game at one apiece. The deadlock was short-lived, however, as Grace Campbell restored the Badgers lead just 1:21 later, a 2–1 advantage that Brock would hold into the third.
Windsor pushed for the equalizer in the final frame, firing nine more shots on goal and pressing in the closing minutes, but Thiessen stood firm to preserve the 2–1 victory for Brock.
