The No. 3 nationally ranked University of Windsor Lancers men's volleyball team swept the McMaster Marauders in back-to-back games on Feb. 6-7 at the Toldo Lancer Centre.
FRIDAY
The Lancers delivered a dominant straight-sets performance on Friday night, sweeping the Marauders 3–0. Windsor controlled the match from start to finish, taking the contest by set scores of 25–16, 25–19, and 25–22 to improve to 15–2 on the season.
The Lancers set the tone early with a composed opening frame, holding McMaster to a negative hitting percentage while steadily building separation. Windsor continued to ramp up the pressure in the second and third sets, finding its offensive rhythm and closing the door with an efficient .358 team hitting percentage for the match, including a blistering .500 clip in the final set.
Offensively,
Kaden Reid paced Windsor with a team-high eight kills, adding seven digs and a service ace for 9.5 points.
Gustavo Siqueira put together another all-around performance with six kills, three service aces, four assists, and five total blocks to finish with 12 points.
Anthony Ivanovski was nearly flawless, recording six kills on seven swings for an .857 hitting percentage while chipping in a service ace.
Markus Law-Heese orchestrated the Lancer attack with 21 assists, also contributing three kills and seven digs. Defensively,
Noah Koskie anchored the back row with eight digs as Windsor finished with 26 digs and 14 total team blocks.
For McMaster, Kaden Zunti led the way with 12.5 points on 12 kills, while Matthias Cooper added seven points. Setter Jason Heidbuurt dished out 29 assists and recorded two service aces in the loss.
SATURDAY
The Lancers turned in a dominant straight-sets performance on Saturday afternoon, sweeping McMaster 3–0. Windsor controlled play throughout the match, earning the win by set scores of 25–22, 25–21, and 25–16 to improve to 16–2 on the season.
"This for sure was a very emotional game, lots of thought and memories running through everybody's mind," said graduating outside hitter
Gustavo Siqueira. "I couldn't have asked for a better senior night."
After a competitive opening frame, the Lancers steadily imposed their rhythm on the match. Windsor cleaned up its offence in the middle set, hitting .500 in the second while holding McMaster to a .185 efficiency before closing out the victory with authority in the third set behind a .421 hitting percentage.
Gustavo Siqueira led Windsor with 13 points, recording 11 kills on a .348 hitting percentage while adding two service aces. "I feel like I did my part," said Siqueira. "Not just me, but everybody is ready to do their part [...] we're all willing to play for the team."
Darian Koskie was a force at the net, posting eight kills on 11 attempts for a .727 efficiency, while
Conaire Taub contributed 10 points with six kills, two service aces, and solid all-around play.
Kaden Reid added five kills in limited action. Setter
Markus Law-Heese directed the Windsor attack with 30 assists, while also contributing 11 digs. Defensively,
Noah Koskie anchored the back row with 10 digs as the Lancers finished with 35 digs as a team and applied steady pressure at the net with 15 total blocks.
For McMaster, Matthias Cooper led the Marauders with 11 points, while Mekhi Fitzgerald added 10.5 points, including three service aces. Jason Heidbuurt recorded 25 assists in the loss.
