McMullen gives Lancers crucial game one win in 2OT

The University of Windsor Lancers men's hockey team left Toronto, Ont. with a 2-1 double overtime win over the TMU Bold on Thursday (Mar. 5) night at the Mattamy Athletic Centre in game one of the OUA semifinals, with OUA goal scoring leader Keegan McMullen ending the stalemate late in the second period of extra time.

STATS
Goaltender Max Donoso was outstanding in net for the Lancers, turning aside 38 of 39 shots to earn the playoff victory. Keegan McMullen led the offensive charge for Windsor with the game-winner in OT, with Dylan Schives opening the scoring for the blue and gold. Aaron Shaw picked up the lone assist for the Lancers.

Windsor held the edge in shots, outshooting the Bold 47–39 through almost five full periods of play. The Lancers recorded 11 shots in the first overtime alone as they pushed for the winner before finally breaking through in the second extra frame.

Kai Edmonds made 45 saves for the Bold.

GAME FLOW
Neither side was able to break through during a scoreless first period despite nine shots apiece.

The Lancers struck first early in the second period as Dylan Schives fired home a wrist shot from the right circle past a screen by Keegan McMullen to give Windsor a 1–0 advantage. TMU answered midway through the frame as Connor Bowie converted at 9:29 to even the game at 1–1.

The third period saw both sides tighten defensively as goaltenders Max Donoso and Kai Edmonds turned aside every opportunity. Windsor pushed the pace late in regulation, but neither team could find the breakthrough before the horn, sending the playoff battle to overtime.

The first overtime period featured chances at both ends and a combined 21 shots, but both netminders stood tall to keep the score locked at one goal apiece.

The Lancers found their moment deep into the second overtime. With just under three minutes remaining, Keegan McMullen capitalized on a turnover and fired a shot over the left shoulder of Edmonds, sealing a hard fought 2–1 double-overtime victory for Windsor.
