Goveia named to Athletics Canada 2026 NextGen European Tour Team

University of Windor Lancers track and field distance runner Isabella Goveia has been selected to Athletics Canada's 2026 NextGen European Tour Team that will compete this summer against top international competition in Europe.

Goveia will be joining 19 other Olympic program athletes and eight Paralympic program athletes in Stuttgart, Germany at the Olympic Training Centre from July 1-12, where Team Canada will be based. During these two weeks, athletes will travel throughout Europe for various meets, where they will experience the full extent of the national team preparation and competition standard.

The St. Catharines native's primary event will be the 800m. Goveia native had a remarkable 2025-26 season, earning four medals (one gold, two silver, one bronze) at the OUA Championships and four more (two gold and two bronze) plus the women's overall bronze medal at the U SPORTS Championships. Her performance as the anchor of the 4x800m relay team played a role in winning OUA gold by 11 seconds and also anchored the group to a national gold.

The newest Banner Shield recipient as the University of Windsor's top female athlete, Goveia twice broke the Lancer all-time women's 600m record this season, with her time of 1:28.56 at U SPORTS in Winnipeg proving to be her best. Her time of 2:46.26 in the 1000m, also in Winnipeg, set another program record.

This marks Goveia's first time representing Canada on the international stage.
