The University of Windsor Lancers men's soccer team is set for a new season at Alumni Stadium, where they will look to continue building upwards and compete for an OUA playoff spot. The Lancers ended last season with an 1-8-3 (W-L-T) record, finishing out of a playoff spot.
With the addition of a new recruiting class and the progression of current promising young players, the Lancers are prepared to make a splash in the OUA and bring playoffs back to Alumni Stadium.
NOTABLE RETURNING PLAYERS
Named as team captain to start the season,
Mateo Nepszy is a veteran presence on a young team and will bring stability and experience to the backfield. The fourth-year defender scored twice in 2025 while starting 11 regular season games.
Midfielder
Matthew Chimienti led the Lancers with three goals scored last season, and will continue to be a centrepiece of the Windsor offense in 2026 as he puts another year of experience under his belt.
Another experienced defender,
Wilchrist Abdo played and started 10 games last season, scoring twice while providing a steady presence on the field. He has started every game that he has played in three years with the blue and gold and will continue to be an impactful player for Windsor.

KEY MATCHUPS
August 28 vs York
Windsor opens their season against the defending U SPORTS national champion York Lions, who took home the title in Toronto last season. The No. 2 nationally ranked Lions have bested the Lancers in their previous three meetings, with the last Lancer point recorded against York being a 1-1 draw in 2023 at Alumni Stadium. Despite the tall task, the Lancers will be energized to start the season in front of a home crowd.
September 13 vs Laurier
The Lancers picked up their lone win of 2025 on home turf against the Golden Hawks in a 2-1 decision. Windsor earned five points in their last five games against Laurier, with a 1-1-2 (W-L-T) record.
September 18 vs Guelph
Two of Windsor's three ties last season came against the Gryphons, including a clean sheet for goalkeeper
Nicholas Zanin in the 2025 season opener. Guelph made the OUA playoffs last season, and the Lancers will look to build on their success against a strong team.
October 9 vs Algoma
The Lancers match up against the Thunderbirds in their final home game of the regular season, a team that they hold a 10-3-2 (W-L-T) record against since 2016, but are looking for their first win since 2022. With a hopeful playoff push, this game will prove to be pivotal for the Lancers and their spot in the standings.
