The University of Windsor Lancers baseball team continued their 2026 season with a four-game weekend against the Guelph Gryphons and Waterloo Warriors.
The Lancers opened the weekend with a pair of games against Guelph on Saturday, Sept. 12 at Cullen Field, falling by scores of 7-1 and 5-2.
Jake Colombe led the blue and gold at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI, as his solo home run in the fifth inning made him the lone Lancer to cross the plate in the first game of the doubleheader.
Nate Tramontozzi gave up three earned runs, six total, in four innings while striking out three, and
Kaden Vecherik came on in relief to close out the final three innings, surrendering just one run.
In the second game against the Gryphons, the Lancers came back to tie the game on two separate occasions but could not find a way to pull ahead, ultimately falling 5-2 as Guelph plated three in the top of the ninth. The Lancers played small ball to score their runs in the third and fourth innings, bunting and hustling on ground balls to force errors on the Gryphon defence. Colombe and
Carson Benevides recorded the Lancer runs.
Nathan Dufour started on the bump for Windsor, tossing 6.2 innings of two-run ball while striking out three and walking just one.
Kurtis Joseph (1.1 inning pitched) and
Zachary Dunne (1.0) appeared out of the bullpen.
On Sunday, September 13, the Lancers visited the Waterloo Warriors in Waterloo, Ont. and lost by scored of 12-2 and 15-0.
The first game saw both Lancer runs score in the second inning on a double by
Benjamin Recker. Dunne,
Cam Morrison, and
Ethan Lawhead split the pitching duties.
Jack Marcotte went 1-for-1 with a walk on Sunday as the Lancers struggled to piece together offence.
The blue and gold return to the diamond on Wednesday, Sep. 16, where they will face the OCAA's St. Clair Saints in an exhibition matchup at Lacasse Park. First pitch is set for 7 p.m.
