The University of Windsor Lancers women's soccer team played a hard-fought match ending in a tie against the Western Mustangs on Friday (Sep. 25) evening in London, Ont.
GAME FLOW
The University of Windsor Lancers took the fight to Western, defending the ball heavily in the first half. In the first 20 minutes Windsor managed three shots, two on goal, and recorded two saves while Western recorded two shots, with two on goal and an equal number of saves.
Both teams took turns playing offensively with multiple attempts at a goal seen as the game continued through to halftime. Neither team could get the ball to find the back of the net, leaving both in stalemate at the end of the first half.
Coming back, Western took advantage of the ball with a shot and corner kick. The Lancers were able to gain control of the ball, hoping for an opportunity to take the lead. A corner kick by Windsor's
Zola DeGraw saw Western record an own goal leaving the Mustangs trailing behind in the scoreboard 1-0 at 63 minutes into the game.
The Lancers tried to keep Western from evening out the game as the teams headed into the last ten minutes, but the Mustangs managed to find the back of the net at 86 minutes to tie the game, which ultimately ended at a 1-1 draw.

Windsor recorded seven shots while the Mustangs managed nine, both teams had five shots on goal. Windsor goalkeeper
Izzy Barrette and Western goalkeeper Astrid Hancocks each made four saves.
Throughout the game, Western had six corner kicks compared to Windsor's four.
Western's Sophie Saville brought the team their only goal of the evening with an assist by Miranda Preece. This was Saville's second goal for the season. Windsor's only goal of the game was a Mustangs own goal.
Western is trailing just behind Windsor in the OUA standings with 2-4-2 (W-L-T) record and the Lancers sitting at 2-4-3.
