Men's Volleyball wins 5-set thriller against Toronto in 2009 home opener

The Windsor Lancers Men's Volleyball team kicked off their 2009-10 OUA regular season in fine fashion as they defeated the Toronto Varsity Blues in a thrilling five set match at the St. Denis Centre.

With the victory, the Lancers move to 1-0 in conference play. 

After dropping the opening set 25-21, the Lancers rebounded and even the match at 1-1 with a 25-21 set win of their own.

Windsor then used a high powered offensive attack to overwhelm the Varsity Blues in the third set, winning 25-11.

Toronto would then battle back themselves as they narrowly won their fourth set by a score of 25-22.

In the fifth and deciding set, the home team proved to be too much to handle as the Lancers pulled out the thrilling five set victory with a 15-8 set win.

Kyle Williamson led the Lancers with 13 kills and 14 points, while Justin Kuskoff added 10 kills and 11 points. Rookie Ryan Le also had an impressive debut as he finished with 9 kills and 12 points.

Josh Edwards also had a strong showing as he chipped in with 11 kills and 18 points.

The Lancers will be back in action next Friday night as they host the McMaster Marauders at 8pm at the St. Denis Centre.
