Lancer Football falls to #4 Queen's at home on Alumni Field

Kamar Anglin carries the ball against Queen's on Saturday
The Lancer Football team held tough with #4 Queen's throughout the first half before eventually falling 42-13 to the Gaels on Saturday at Alumni Field.

With the loss, the Lancers fall to 2-3 on the season.

On Saturday, the Gaels kicker was the only one able to get on the board in the first quarter. After 2 rouges early in the first quarter, Dan Village added a 37 yard field goal with 3:37 left to put Queens up 5-0 at the end of 15 minutes.

The Lancers would get on the board early in the second quarter when Kamar Anglin broke loose on a 39-yard run to put Windsor in field goal position. Joe Colella's 41 yard kick was good to put the Lancers within two, 5-3.

Queen's followed up Windsor's field goal with a touchdown on the next drive that was capped off by a 1 yard keeper to put the Gaels up 12-3.

With 59 seconds remaining in the first half, Lancer Jordan Brescacin came up with a big punt block that he ran back 32 yards for a touchdown, closing the gap to 12-10.

However on the last play of the half, Queen's added a 31 yard field goal to put them up 15-10 heading into the break.

Early in the second half, the Lancer defense fought hard to keep their team in the game.  After a Queen's interception deep in the Lancer zone, the defense managed to hold Queen's quarterback Danny Brannagan and the Gaels to only field goal.

However, the Lancer offence couldn't find a rhythm and continued to hand the ball back to the Gaels. Queen's Jimmy Allin then ran a 50 yard punt return back for a touchdown to increase the Queen's lead to 27-10.

Both kickers continued to add points throughout the third quarter. Dan Village managed to add 3 rouges to his total while Lancer kicker Joe Colella added a field goal after a fumble recovery by Matt Bucknor to end the third quarter at 28-13 in favour of Queen's.

The fourth quarter saw Brannagan and his offence finally find their stride as the Queen's quarterback found receiver Mark Surya for a major on a 13 yard score. That was followed by a 51 yard pass by Brannagan to Scott Valberg, making the final score 42-13.

Lancer running back Kamar Anglin was a bright spot for Windsor as he finished with 136 rushing yards on 19 carries.

Queen's was led by Brannagan who finished 25 of 41 for 401 yards while receiver Scott Valberg had 7 catches for 162 yards.

Next week, the Lancers hit the road to take on the # 8 ranked Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks at 1pm in Waterloo.

Windsor will then return back home on Saturday, October 17th for their last home game of the season against the McMaster Marauders. Kick-off is set for 7pm on Alumni Field.
