Women's Volleyball earns first win of the season with victory over Ottawa

Box Score
The Lancer Women's Volleyball team won their first match of the season on Sunday afternoon with a 3-0 victory over the Ottawa Gee Gees at the St. Denis Centre.

Windsor defeated the Gee Gees 25-21, 27-25 and 25-17 for the three-set victory.

On Sunday, set one of the match saw two evenly skilled teams battling through some long, hard-played rallies, with the score remaining close for the majority of the first set.

Tied at 21-21, the Lancers finally seized control as Jessica Shepley's service ace was followed by a Mackenzie Coyle kill to give the home team the 25-21 victory.

The hard fought rallies continued on through much of the second set. Both teams kept the the ball in play with some excellent digging and by executing some impressive saves.

For the second consecutive set, the Lancers took control near the end as they battled for a hard fought 27-25 set win.

Windsor had a strong start in set three, as they put up 8 straight points before allowing Ottawa to get on the board.

Staying confident and in control, the Lancers were able to hold on to their lead for a majority of the set. After the second technical time-out, a Gee Gees comeback would cut Windsor's lead to to just three points.

However, the Lancers responded from that point on as they controlled the rest of the set en route to the 25-17 win and the 3-0 match victory.

For the Lancers, Kaila Seguin led the way with 8 kills while Mackenzie Coyle contributed 6 of her own. Jillian Fantuz also had a strong match with 25 assists.

The Lancers will be back in action next Sunday, November 22nd as they take on the Western Mustangs at 2pm at the St. Denis Centre.
