"Battle at the Bridge" resumes as Lancers prepare to take on Mustangs

OUA Football action resumes in Week 3 as the Blue and Gold prepare to open their latest chapter in the  “Battle at the Bridge” against the #2 Western Mustangs this Saturday night on Alumni Field.

This has been a long standing rivalry between both squads, as the Lancers look to rebound from a tough loss at the hands of the Mustangs a year ago.

Coach Morencie's squad has started the season on a roll after two wins over York and Toronto. Against the Blues last Saturday, the team continued to dominate their opponents with a potent ground game which saw Paul Lefaive and Kamar Anglin lead the attack with a combined 201 yards.

The trio of Lefaive, Anglin and Cody Butler in the back field will need to come up big again this week as the Lancersr look to establish the run game against a Western team that has given up 292 yards on the ground in the first two weeks.

By continuing to establish the ground game, Windsor hopes to be able to open up deep threats like Jordan Brescacin, who hauled in a 79-yard touchdown pass last week from quarterback Dan Carloni.

The Lancers will also have to continue their solid defensive play which has allowed a league best 17 points in two games.

Specifically, they'll be looking to keep Western quarterback Michael Faulds in check, as the Mustang pivot is currently second in the OUA in passing with 608 yards. A total team effort will be needed as the they look to pressure Faulds and create some turnovers on Saturday.

The Battle at the Bridge is set for Saturday night at University of Windsor Stadium. Gates are set to open at 5:30pm, so come early to be one of the first 500 lucky fans to receive a FREE 2009 Lancer football commemorative “Battle at the Bridge” t-shirt.

Fans will also have the chance to take part in all of the great pre-game promotions and events that will be taking place in the main course around the stadium. Kick-off is set for 7:05pm.
