The Lancer Women's Volleyball team opened their 2010-11 season with a pair of losses at home over the weekend to the McMaster Marauders and the Guelph Gryphons.

On Friday night, the Lancers faced the McMaster Marauders in their season opener and fell 3-0 (11-25, 10-25, 14-25).

Windsor struggled to contain McMaster's attack throughout the game and had a tough time controlling the ball on the attack.

The Lancers mounted a late rally in the third set but were unable to overcome the Marauders as they dropped the contest.

Jessica Beltran led the Lancers defensively with 8 digs while Anna Vrcelj and Mackenzie Coyle led the Lancer offence with four kills apiece.

McMaster's Kaila Janssen had a game high of 10 kills for the visitors.

On Saturday night, the Lancers had a tough time with the No. 10 ranked Guelph Gryphons as they again lost in three straight sets (8-25, 16-25, 14-25).

Against the Gryphons, the visitors took an early 8-3 lead and continued to dominate onto the second technical timeout, at 16-5. The Gryphons offensive power carried throughout the set with a final score of 25-8.

With some early pressure in the second game, the Lancers were able to take their first lead of the match. The Lancer defense kept them in the set for most of the way until the Gryphons pulled ahead, ending the set 25-16.

Windsor took the early lead in the third set but again were unable to slow down Guelph's impressive offensive power. Guelph closed the match with a set three victory by the score of 25- 14.

The Lancers will prepare to take on their rivals, the Western Mustangs next Friday, October 29th at 6pm at the St. Denis Centre.
