Box Score The Lancer women's volleyball team put up a strong fight against the visiting Western Mustangs on Friday night at the St. Denis Centre but was unable to come away with the win, falling 3-1 to the Mustangs.
A tight first set eventually saw the two teams tied at 26. It looked like the Lancers would take it when a power hit and ace serve by
Kaila Seguin put them in winning range and forced the Mustangs to take their final timeout. The exciting first set eventually ended 29-27 for Western.
The Lancer offense, lead by
Michelle Pierce (5 kills, one service ace) and
Kaila Seguin (5 kills), showed their true power in set two with their .433 attack percentage over Western's .231. Coming from behind twice to match up with Western, the Lancers refused to give up, forcing extra points and taking their first set victory of the season 29-27.
In set three the Mustangs came on strong offensively, quickly reaching both technical time outs and taking a 9-point lead. Despite a five-point streak late in the set, the Lancers were unable make up the deficit. Mustangs took set three 25-18.
Lancers faced a similar fate in the fourth set, losing 16-25.
Windsor will now take a break from regular season action until November 13th when they travel to the nation's capital to take on the Ottawa Gee Gees.
