Box Score The Lancer Women's Hockey team earned a thrilling 3-2 come from behind victory over the #2 ranked Laurier Golden Hawks on Saturday afternoon at South Windsor Arena.
The win put Windsor at 6-0 on the season and in first place in the OUA as the only undefeated team in the league.
On Saturday, Laurier took an early lead when Brittany Crago opened the scoring for the Hawks with a shorthanded marker in the first.
Candace Chevalier tied the game at 1-1 just 17 seconds later with a power play goal. The game remained tied until the final minutes of the period when Laurier took a one goal lead.
The second period continued to be a hard fought battle as neither team was able to capitalize on their power play advantage.
In the third, Windsor's
Brooke Ludolph was finally able to tie the game up at two midway through the frame on a goal that was assisted by Stephanie Herbert and
Jenny MacKnight.
Just four minutes later,
Lindsay Hoogstraten would complete the comeback and score the game winner on her first goal of her season.
Jamie Tessier turned aside 24 of 26 shots in goal to earn the victory for the Lancers.
On Sunday, the Lancers dropped their first game of the season with a 2-1 loss to the Waterloo Warriors.
The Warriors were able to capitalize on some breakdowns by the Lancer defence, as they snuck one past rookie goaltender
Kasey Martin.
Waterloo continued to press in the second period as they capitalized off a bouncing puck to take a 2-0 lead.
Candace Rapchak would get her team back in the game with a goal that cut the Warriors lead to 2-1.
Heading into the 3rd, the Lancers tried to stage a furious comeback firing shots left and right at Warrior goalie Martina Michaud. Michaud stood on her head for the Warriors as she faced 52 shots by the Lancers.
Michaud's performance kept Windsor off the board as the Warriors earned the 2-1 upset victory.
The Lancers outshot the Warriors 52-9 in the game.
Windsor will hit the road next weekend with a pair of games against the Guelph Gryphons and Brock Badgers.
