The Lancer men's hockey team will open up their regular season on the road this weekend with a pair of games against the York Lions in Toronto.
Both games can be seen live on the web at
www.ssncanada.ca. Friday's game is at 7:00pm, while Saturday's will be played at 2:00pm.
The Lancers are looking to build on an impressive 2009-10 season which saw them make significant steps as a program in the underdog position.
This season, head coach
Kevin Hamlin has added some offensive depth to the men's squad which already has one of the best defensive corps in the OUA anchored by five OHL veterans.
Makaric, a former Chatham Maroon, turned a lot of heads in camp and had an impressive pre-season, including netting his first goal in his first game for Windsor. The six-foot-two, 180 pound centre also gives the Lancers some much needed size and speed down the middle.
In Lombardi, the Lancers add some physical presence and another player with OHL experience. The six-foot-one, 205-pound Lombardi played for Barrie, Belleville and Plymouth in his four-year OHL career.
Caicco, red shirted last season after spending a year playing for Epinal in the French pro league, brings some speed and craftiness to Windsor lineup.
Coach Hamlin's squad has a difficult schedule for the upcoming season already playing out of the OUA's toughest division with Lakehead, Western, Waterloo and Laurier. The team has drawn a pair of challenging crossover games at Windsor Arena against East Division champions UQTR.
The squad should be up to the task after splitting a series with the U20 Czech National team in August and fresh off taking on the No. 12 ranked University of Alaska Fairbanks Nanooks and the University of Alaska Anchorage Seawolves.
The Lancers will open up their home schedule against Lakehead on Friday October, 15th at 7:30 at Windsor Arena.
