Box Score The Lancers Football team got a much needed win on Thansgiving weekend as they dominated the York Lions 61-15 on Alumni Field in Windsor.
Windsor got a strong performance from rookie quarterback
Austin Kennedy as they cruised to victory over the 0-6 Lions.
On Saturday, the first quarter was a wild affair that included four turnovers between the two teams. The Lions struck first getting on the board after a 61 yard touchdown pass from Darren Frank to receiver Jonelle Tolbert just two and a half minutes into the game.
The Lancers would quickly respond as
Austin Kennedy would find a wide open
Jordan Brescacin in the end zone on a 33-yard pass to tie the game at 7-7.
The opening quarter ended with the Lions on top 13-7 as James Tuck recovered the ball in the Lancers end zone after fourth year linebacker Tyler De Moel blocked a punt attempt deep in Lancer territory.
The Lancer offence took over in the second quarter as kicker
Robert Eeuwes kicked an early field goal to bring the home team to within four points. A few minutes later
Matt Bucknor pulled down his second interception of the game to set up a 10 yard touchdown pass from Kennedy to
Cory Fernandes to put the Lancers up 17-13.
Windsor then took over completely on both sides of the ball as Kennedy found
Nick Baldassi who picked up 33 yards before
Paul Lefaive punched in his first touchdown of the season.
They weren't done there as the Lancers faked a field goal and turned the play into seven points as Brescacin completed a 30 yard pass to Baldassi to put the Lancer up 33-13 with two minutes remaining in the half.
The Lancer defense continued to come up big as rookie
Josh Burns came up with his first interception in a Lancer uniform. This led to
Cory Fernandes second touchdown of the afternoon as he broke through the York defense to muscle his way into the end zone on a 22 yard pass.
The defense also got involved in the scoring in the second half as
Udoka Nwaesei and A.J Langlois both took York turnovers back for touchdowns.
Greg Orsini would later find Mitch Atkinson for his first touchdown as the Lancers closed the game out with the 61-15 victory.

Austin Kennedy finished the game 16 of 22 passing for 230 yards and three touchdowns. Fernandes led the Lancers with 3 catches for 46 yards and 2 touchdowns.
The Lancers will hit the road next week to take on the Guelph Gryphons on Saturday, October 16th at 1pm.
They will then return home for their final game of the 2010 regular season on October 23rd against the Laurier Golden Hawks. Kick-off is set for 1pm at Alumni Field.
