Box Score The Windsor Lancers Men's Basketball team defeated the Ottawa Gee Gees 84-81 on Friday night at the St. Denis Centre.
With the victory, the #8 ranked Lancers move to 5-0 in OUA regular season play and sit in first place in the OUA West standings.
On Friday, both teams got off to slow starts offensively as the Gee Gees used a late run in the opening quarter to go ahead 17-13.
The Lancers quickly responded in the second quarter as guard
Enrico Diloreto used some aggressive play to bring his team back to a tie game, 23-23. The home team outscored Ottawa by ten in the second quarter as they took a 37-31 halftime lead.
The second half continued to be a battle as neither team could break free of the other. The lead changed hands a number of times with Windsor holding a slight 55-54 lead after three.
The fourth quarter was a shoot-out with both teams finding their range from three-point land. The lead went back and forth throughout the quarter before
Andre Smyth took over late.
Smyth knocked down four 3-pointers late in the game to give the Lancers the lead for good. The Windsor native had 12 of his 18 points late as he helped his team secure the 84-81 victory.
In the win,
Monty Hardware had 17 points and 7 rebounds while
Lien Phillip finished with 15 points and 9 rebounds.
Enrico Diloreto added 14 points and
Isaac Kuon had 9 points.
The Lancers will be back in action on Saturday night when they host the #1 ranked Carleton Ravens at the St. Denis Centre. Tip-off is set for 8pm.
