Lancer Hockey set to host UQTR Patriots for first time at Windsor Arena

Coach Hamlin will face the Patriots for the first time behind the Lancer bench
The Windsor Lancers men's hockey team returns to action this weekend as they are set to host the UQTR Patriots (7-4) in a weekend double header.

After stringing together two consecutive wins last weekend the Lancers are looking to make it three in a row in against the Patriots.

This is the first time the Lancers and Patriots have faced off in OUA action.

Last weekend saw the Lancers snap a three game losing streak against the Laurier Golden Hawks with a 3-2 win on Friday.  Windsor got on the board early as Scott Todd scored his first goal of the season to give them a 1-0 lead. Laurier answered back a minute later to tie the game 1-1 early in the first.

In the second, Ryan Caicco would register his fourth goal of the season on the power play just two minutes into the period to go ahead 2-1.

The Lancers held a 2-1 lead through most of the third period before Laurier's Ryan Bernardi scored on the power play to even things up. However, two minutes later, second year forward Anthony Tapper scored his third of the year to give the Lancers the 3-2 lead and the victory.

Saturday saw the Lancers build on that win as they disposed of the York Lions 4-2 to move to 6-5-1 on the season. Steve Ferry tallied his first of the season to open the game for the Lancers. After York tied it up later in the first, the Lancers re-gained the lead late in the second a one-timer from Jonathan Sciacca.

After the Lions tied the game Christian Steingraber tallied the game winner before Brett Oliphant iced the game with an empty netter for his second of the season.

The Lancers will have their hands full against the Patriots who are on their own two game win streak after knocking off Ryerson 7-1 and Queens 7-4 last weekend.

The Lancers, who currently sit 4th in the tight OUA West conference , are finding their stride as the first half of the season comes to a close, sitting two points behind the second place Lakehead Thunderwolves. The Lancers will look to maintain their winning streak and move up the standings.

At this weekend's double header, any local minor hockey player who wears their team jersey will be given free admission to both of this weekend's games. Puck drop is set for 7:30pm on Friday and 2pm on Saturday at Windsor Arena.
