Men's Hockey falls 3-2 in a shootout to UQTR

Despite a strong game in goal from Jim Watt, the Lancers fell 3-2 in a shootout to the UQTR Patriotes.
Box Score The Windsor Lancers Men's Hockey team was defeated 3-2 in a shootout by the UQTR Patriotes on Saturday afternoon at Windsor Arena.

With the shootout loss, the Lancers move to 6-5-3 in OUA conference play.

On Saturday, the Patriotes got on the board first just six minutes into the game to take the 1-0 lead.

The Lancers would respond later in the opening frame as Michael Lombardi scored his 8th goal of the season on the powerplay to even the score at 1-1. Steve Ferry assisted on the goal.

In the second, Windsor would take the lead halfway through the period as captain Kyle Lang scored his 4th of the year to make it 2-1. Ferry and Jonathan Sciacca assisted on Lang's marker.

Windsor would hold the lead most of the third period until a late penalty by Matt McCready proved costly. The Patriotes converted on the ensuing man advantage to tie the game at 2-2.

After a scoreless overtime period, the two teams went to a shootout to decide the winner. Lancer goaltender Jim Watt was outstanding the shootout as he made seven straight saves to hold UQTR off the scoresheet. However, the Lancers were unable to convert on their chances and the Patriotes would eventually score to win the shootout 1-0 and claim the 3-2 victory.

Jim Watt made 18 saves in the game for the Lancers.

Coach Hamlin's team will be back in action next weekend when they travel to North Bay, Ontario for a weekend series against the Nippissing Lakers.
