Box Score The Windsor Lancers Women's Hockey team continued their tremendous play on Saturday as they defeated the York Lions 3-2 in double overtime in the OUA Quarter-Finals in Toronto.
With the victory, the Lancers now advance to the OUA Semi-Finals and will face-off against the Laurier Golden Hawks in a best of three series.
Game one is scheduled for Thursday night in Waterloo at 7:30pm. Game Two will follow in Windsor on Saturday February 27th at 4:10pm at South Windsor Arena, with game three returning to Waterloo on Sunday at 7:30pm, if necessary.
On Saturday, the York Lions got on the board first in the opening period as Courtney Unruh scored at 9:53 to give the home team the 1-0 lead.
The Lancers would answer back in the second period with a pair of goals to take the lead.
Lindsay Hoogstraten scored a powerplay marker at 1:42 to tie the game at 1-1.
Eight minutes later, Windsor would take the lead as
Stephanie Hebert scored an unassisted goal to give her team the 2-1 lead.
In the third, the Lions were able to even up the score as Chloe Milano registered her first goal of the post season halfway through the period to make it 2-2.
The game would remain scoreless the rest of the period and through the first overtime period.
In double overtime,
Manon Davis did what she has done all season long and that is come up with big goals for her team.
The native of Sudbury, Ontario led the OUA in goal scoring this season with 19 and she added another huge one to that total on Saturday.
At the 11:38 mark of the second overtime period, Davis fired one past the York netminder to give the Lancers the 3-2 victory and send them into the OUA Semi-Finals.
Jamie Tessier was brilliant in goal again for Windsor as she stopped 51 of 53 shots in the victory.
The Lancers will now face the #2 nationally ranked Laurier Golden Hawks in a best of three series in the OUA Semi-Finals. Game one has tentatively been set for Thursday night in Waterloo. More details to follow.
The two teams last played in the final regular season game of the year as Windsor upset the Golden Hawks 2-1 in overtime. That victory earned them a playoff spot and gave Laurier their first loss of the regular season.
