Lancers lose heartbreaking five-setter to Gryphons in OUA Quarter-Finals

Box Score The Windsor Lancers Men's Volleyball team lost a heartbreaking five-set match to the Guelpy Gryphons in the OUA Quarter-Finals on Saturday at the St. Denis Centre.

In front of a large and boisterious crowd in Windsor, the home team dropped the five-setter by scores of 25-23, 12-25, 25-23, 18-25 and 12-15.

On Saturday, the Gryphons got off to a fast start as they built a early lead in the opening set. The Lancers fought back late in the set thanks to some solid hitting to take it 25-23.

The second set was all Guelph as they used a balanced offensive attack and strong serving to take the second 25-12 and even the match.

The third set was much like the first set as both teams fought hard for the lead. The score remained tied for much of the set until the end when the Lancers scored some big points to win 25-23.

The Gryphons responded again in the fourth set with some inspired play as they built a big lead in the middle of the set and hung on for the 25-18 victory.

The fifth and deciding set was close all the way as both teams fought desperately for the win. In the end, the Gryphons took advantage of some unforced errors to take the set 15-13 and the match.
