Box Score The Lancer Women's Hockey team was defeated 2-1 by the Laurier Golden Hawks in game two of the OUA Semi Finals on Saturday afternoon at South Windsor Arena.
With the loss, the Lancers see their season come to an end as a result of the Golden Hawks winning the best of three series.
Down 1-0 in the series and with their season on the line heading into the game, the Lancers came out blazing on Saturday and battled the Golden Hawks hard for sixty straight minutes.
The Lancers opened scoring with their only marker as Lindsay Hoogstraten deflected a shot from Kelly Calhoun past Laurier goaltender Liz Knox while on the power play .
Windsor continued to play strong, throwing their weight around, as they made Laurier fight for every puck. The Lancers headed into the first intermission up 1-0.
Early in the second, Windsor found themselves in a bit of penalty trouble and the Golden Hawks' Kate Psota beat Lancer netminder Jamie Tessier to even up the game at ones.
With the game tied, both teams came out flying in the third period, as most of the action was in the neutral zone with both teams firing on all cylinders.
Hawk captain Andrea Ironside netted the game winning goal midway through the third period as she and Caitlin Muirhead entered the Lancer zone on a two-on-one and beat Tessier.
Tessier faced a barrage of shots throughout the contest as she stopped 34 while Hawk backstop Knox stopped 25.
With the loss, the Lancers ended their most successful season in program history. This year saw the Lancers make the OUA semi-finals for the first time to host their first home playoff game ever, earn two victories over their arch-rivals the Toronto Varsity Blues for the first time, and defeat the undefeated Golden Hawks in the last game of the regular season to go 9-2 in the second part of the year and earn a berth in the OUA playoffs.
