Lancer Football looks for first win against Blues on Labour Day Monday

The Lancers have won the last four meetings against the Varsity Blues
After a tough loss to No. 5 ranked Ottawa last week, the Windsor Lancers football program hits the road this week to take on the University of Toronto Varsity Blues in the classic Labour Day clash.

The Lancers will be looking for their first win of the young 2010 campaign, and looked poised to do so as they have had great success over the Blues over the past few seasons. Since 2006, the Lancers have outscored the Varsity Blues by a whopping 171-55, with a 4-0 record that includes a 30-3 victory last season.

The Varsity Blues are coming off a tough 15-13 loss to the Guelph Gryphon's last week. That contest saw Blues quarterback Andrew Gillis go 12 for 25 and 158 yards in the loss.

With both teams looking for their first win of the season, emotions will be running high as the teams take the field at Varsity Stadium in Toronto.

Lancer QB Sam Malian will look to continue the strong play that saw him bring his team within six points of the Gee Gees last week.

Malian will look to get the offence going right out of the gate this week, establishing a dangerous running game along with hitting the deep threats in Cory Fernandes and Jordan Brescacin

The Lancers defense will look to continue their strong play that saw them hold Ottawa's offence to just 6 points in the second half. The veteran laden defensive corps' physical play seemed to grind the talented Gee Gees offence down as the game wore on.

Following Monday's game, the Lancers will hit the road again and travel to Kingston on Sunday September 12th to take on the reigning Yates cup champions Queen's Gaels before returning home on the 18th to face their rivals the Western Mustangs.
